And, actually, I think that current skill design is really lacking compared to Titan Quest. I like the itemization and skill system in Grim Dawn (which was lifted directly from titan quest, obviously, but whatever) more than that of virtually every other ARPG but the game has a lot of flaws. There's also a distinct lack of varied terrain, with many areas looking very same-y. It currently only has two acts, and neither feel as long as a single act in most other ARPGs. Grim Dawn is okay but extraordinarily light on content. I find it hard to sink as much time into TL2 as I have virtually any other ARPG, and this is coming from someone that's fairly deeply committed to the genre.

Torchlight is a very enjoyable ARPG-light, especially once you factor in moddable content, but its main pro and its main con are pretty closely tied together it's very affordable, but I feel like you're really paying for the amount of content that you get. D3 is certainly not strictly better than any of the other options, though it's probably ideal for new players without budgets. I really enjoyed D3 for the time that I played it post-RoS, but I haven't yet been able to bring myself back to it post-2.1.

It starts out very good, tho, and so it's great for people unfamiliar with the genre, and that isn't to say that fans of the genre can't also enjoy it for a very, very long period of time, but D3 has always been plagued by a poorly tuned endgame and the newest update doesn't change that.

I guess Titan Quest could be a classic old game option.ĭiablo 3 is unique among ARPGs as I think that it gets worse the more you play it. But maybe it's because I already have plenty of experience with similar games of the genre. I personally loved Grim Dawn, and didn't find it that complicated. But I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better option out there first. Her sister played it a lot already, you cannot screw up your "build" through bad skill choice (since choice has been removed as a permanent build feature). Obviously starting acceptable game is Diablo III. Obviously, a game providing satisfaction in the bashing of monsters you do would also be sweet. She isn't well verse in video games to begin with, so I guess an overly complicated game might not be the best idea (which is why I am reticent to just make her pick up the free Path of Exile, which is both harder and a bit more complex to pick up than ye average ARpg). In part to be able to blow off some steam and do aggressive stuff as a distraction. After a few discussions with my girlfriend, she decided to try out the Action RPG computer game genre.
